If you charge a company car at home on an EO Mini Pro 3, your employer can reimburse that electricity free of tax and National Insurance — as long as it is clear the electricity went into the company car and not into the house. Since August 2025 the Mini Pro 3 reports to ev.energy, but EO states in writing that you may point it at another OCPP platform of your choosing instead, and ChargeReport is one. Once it is connected, every session reaches us with date, time and kWh, and each month you and your payroll team get a statement listing them. The charger measures the energy itself.
Supported EO models
ChargeReport supports the following models of the EO range natively, with no extra hardware:
- Mini Pro 3
If your model is not listed but has an OCPP interface that lets you enter your own backend, it can still connect to us — our gateway speaks OCPP 1.6J and 2.0.1 and accepts connections encrypted via wss://. If you are unsure, see our setup guide for wallbox brands or get in touch before you sign up.
Connect your EO wallbox in 3 minutes
You need the EO Customer Card handed over at installation: it carries the serial number, the hotspot password and your login. Connect your phone or laptop to the Wi-Fi network named after the charger's serial number, open https://10.10.10.1 in a browser and sign in with the login from the card. On the "Charger" page, replace the ev.energy address in the "Endpoint URL" field with the one from the ChargeReport setup wizard and save. These steps apply from firmware 1.5.0. Afterwards the ev.energy app's features, such as scheduled and tariff-based charging, no longer apply, and the charger simply charges when the car is plugged in. We do not have an EO running yet; these steps are researched rather than tested.
What your employer can reimburse — and what they need from you
If you drive a company car in the UK, your employer can reimburse what it costs to charge it at home free of income tax and National Insurance — electricity is not treated as fuel for the car fuel benefit charge, so the exemption in s.239(2) ITEPA 2003 applies. HMRC attaches one condition to it: the employer has to be satisfied that the reimbursement is solely for the company car and not for the household. No particular meter or method is prescribed. ChargeReport reads every session from your EO charger and turns it into a monthly statement — each session with date, time and kWh, plus monthly totals — which evidences exactly the separation HMRC asks for, in a form payroll can file.

Charging in Ireland? The requirement is close to HMRC's, but Revenue also writes the record-keeping duty into its own guidance — and the charge point exemption there covers fully electric cars only. Company car home charging in Ireland
EO charging and your employer — who pays for the electricity?
Charging a company car at home is paid for by you first: it runs through your domestic electricity contract. Your employer can reimburse that amount without tax or National Insurance, but only for the electricity that went into the company car. That is the whole difficulty — a household meter cannot tell the car from the dishwasher, and an annual bill from your supplier cannot either. This is a different route from the 7p per mile advisory rate, which only ever covers business mileage and needs a mileage log rather than kWh. ChargeReport produces the evidence for the first route from the readings your EO charger already takes.
Common questions about EO & ChargeReport
Which EO chargers work?+
The EO Mini Pro 3. EO has discontinued the older Mini Pro 2, and we know of no way to connect it.
I can't find my Customer Card. What now?+
EO refers you to ev.energy support, who can reissue the login details. Without them you cannot reach the setting.
My charger is on a mobile (GSM) connection. Does this still work?+
You reach the setting through the charger's hotspot whichever way it is connected. For GSM-connected chargers EO refers you to ev.energy support, though, and we do not know whether that SIM reaches other back offices. On Wi-Fi or Ethernet the question does not arise — let us know how yours is set up.
My employer supplied the charger. Can I switch it?+
Ask first. Many EO chargers were installed through fleet schemes; if yours reports to a back office run by your employer or a provider, switching it cuts off their access.
Do I need a separate meter for HMRC?+
No. The UK prescribes no measuring method. HMRC's condition (EIM23900) is that the employer is satisfied the reimbursement relates solely to the company car — how you show that is left open. Session-level records from the charger's built-in metering are one straightforward way.
