Easee home charging, reclaimed from your employer

Easee Home, Charge and Core connected through the Easee cloud — two minutes, no hardware access needed.

Easee chargers are compact, popular with UK installers, and — importantly here — they report every session to the Easee cloud with a documented API. If you drive a company car and charge it at home, your employer can reimburse that electricity free of tax and National Insurance, provided it is clear the electricity went into the company car rather than the house. ChargeReport reads your Easee sessions and produces a monthly statement that shows exactly that.

Supported Easee models

ChargeReport supports the following models of the Easee range natively, with no extra hardware:

  • Easee Home
  • Easee Charge
  • Easee Core

If your model is not listed but has an OCPP 1.6J interface, it will most likely still work — our gateway accepts any OCPP 1.6J compliant charge point. If you are unsure, see our setup guide for wallbox brands or get in touch before you sign up.

Connect your Easee wallbox in 3 minutes

Easee is cloud-first — the charger speaks to the Easee cloud, not OCPP, and that cloud has a stable documented API. Three steps: (1) choose "Easee" in the ChargeReport wizard and sign in once with your Easee account (OAuth, we never hold your password). (2) ChargeReport pulls your charger IDs and you pick the one used for the company car. (3) Our sync worker then polls every 15 minutes and back-fills the previous 30 days, so the first statement is already complete. If more than one driver uses the same charger, Easee reports the RFID tag used, so sessions can be attributed per driver.

What your employer can reimburse — and what they need from you

If you drive a company car in the UK, your employer can reimburse what it costs to charge it at home free of income tax and National Insurance — electricity is not treated as fuel for the car fuel benefit charge, so the exemption in s.239(2) ITEPA 2003 applies. HMRC attaches one condition to it: the employer has to be satisfied that the reimbursement is solely for the company car and not for the household. No particular meter or method is prescribed. ChargeReport reads every session from your Easee charger and turns it into a monthly statement — each session with date, time and kWh, plus monthly totals — which evidences exactly the separation HMRC asks for, in a form payroll can file.

More on the legal side: Company car home charging in the UK: what your employer can reimburse tax-free

Easee charging and your employer — who pays for the electricity?

Charging a company car at home is paid for by you first: it runs through your domestic electricity contract. Your employer can reimburse that amount without tax or National Insurance, but only for the electricity that went into the company car. That is the whole difficulty — a household meter cannot tell the car from the dishwasher, and an annual bill from your supplier cannot either. This is a different route from the 7p per mile advisory rate, which only ever covers business mileage and needs a mileage log rather than kWh. ChargeReport produces the evidence for the first route from the readings your Easee charger already takes.

Common questions about Easee & ChargeReport

Which Easee models work with ChargeReport?+

Easee Home, Easee Charge and Easee Core. The API is identical across all three — ChargeReport detects the type from the charger profile.

Two cars share our charger. Can the sessions be told apart?+

Yes, if charging is started with an RFID tag. Easee reports which tag was used, and ChargeReport can assign each tag to a driver. Without tags all sessions land together, which is exactly the situation the exemption asks you to avoid.

Is a separate meter required in the UK?+

No. HMRC prescribes no measuring method — that requirement exists in Germany and Austria, not here. What HMRC asks (EIM23900) is that the employer is satisfied the reimbursement relates solely to the company car.

Does the exemption cover private mileage as well?+

Reimbursing the electricity cost of a company car is treated differently from paying mileage. HMRC's own online checker returns no tax and no reporting for an employer-owned car where the employee pays and is reimbursed. The mileage-based advisory rate, by contrast, only ever covers business miles.

Do I need my installer for any of this?+

No. Everything runs through your existing Easee account — no site visit, no network access to the charger, no firmware change.
